Site Search Contract

Camp Goodtimes (CGT) provides a unique summer recreation experience for children and youth diagnosed with cancer, and their families. CGT is run by the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and serves children, youth, and families from throughout BC and the Yukon. CGT was established in 1985 and includes Kids, Family, and Teen Camps, and year-round support.

Currently, the majority of our summer programs are hosted at a site that does not allow CGT programs to grow as demand for spots at camp continues to increase. More information is needed about other site possibilities in order to explore the possibility of expanding our summer program offerings. The successful applicant will lead a survey of available rental spaces and provide a report to CCS staff for consideration for future rentals.

Responsibilities and Deliverables:

• Initiate a broad-based search of current rental sites in BC.

• Determine which locations meet CGT criteria for capacity, location, accessibility, availability, and appropriate facilities and activities.

• Complete site visits at the top 3-5 sites that best match the CGT site criteria.

• Provide a final report on the research findings including a detailed summary of all the sites reviewed in person, and recommendations to CCS staff.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• General knowledge of rental summer camps, retreat centers, and similar in BC.

• Thorough understanding of physical accessibility as it pertains to facility options.

• Capable of travel throughout south-west BC (Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, Okanagan, Vancouver Island) in order to perform site visits.

• Organized, detail-oriented, and thorough in conducting research and gathering all relevant information.

• Ability to use a variety of mediums – web, phone, and in person meetings – to gather all relevant information.

• Clear and concise written skills that can be used to present research findings.

• Insight into the site needs of summer camps in general. Knowledge of the specific Camp Goodtimes population needs an asset but not required.

Terms of the contract:

1. The contractor will work virtually and need to supply their own computer, phone, and office space. CCS offices can be made available for meetings.

2. All project costs will be covered by the contractor with the exception of travel to perform the site visits which will be covered by the CCS.

3. The ideal due date for the final report is June 23rd, with some flexibility.

4. 100 hours at $35/hour have been budgeted for this contract. This is open to negotiation if the applicant can justify the need for more hours to complete the tasks.

Send questions and applications to Camp Manager Scout Gray at scout.gray@bc.cancer.ca Applications should include a resume and cover letter and will be reviewed beginning May 3rd until a suitable applicant is accepted.
