Leaders in Training
(16 - 18 Years Old)
The Leaders in Training (LIT) Program provides an opportunity for young people to foster and grow their leadership skills both for in camp and real life application. During the LIT Program, young leaders learn about their own leadership style, how to lead and work in a team setting, communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
Starting in 2018, the LIT Program will run as a two part approach. Your first year as an LIT, regardless of age, you will spend most of your time at camp with your peers learning about what it means to lead both a group and yourself through various interactive sessions in the Discovery Program. Once you have completed this, you will have the necessary tools to move onward to the Venture Program the following summer where you will put your leadership skills to work when you shadow a volunteer role at camp as well as continue to expand your leadership skills. LITs are encouraged to challenge themselves, try new things, explore new ways of thinking and provide support to each other. Although still considered campers, our young leaders in the LIT Program are given a number of responsibilities that have the potential to strengthen their sense of empowerment and independence.
The LIT Program is open to teens who are 16-18 years of age diagnosed with cancer, are siblings of those who have or have had cancer, or who are bereaved siblings. We are able to accommodate 12 LIT participants in each session.
Teens diagnosed with cancer who are not able to attend the LIT Program are still eligible to apply to the Teen Program.
The Discovery Program runs during the Family Camp Program, and the Venture Program runs during our Kids Camp which are 4 and 6 days respectively.
Qualified medical and social-emotional support is available on-site to ensure that all participants are comfortable and cared for.
Please complete the application and submit it to the Camp Goodtimes office no later than March 31, 2019.
